White Night... Firenze

Hey everyone, so as you have already seen my pictures from my parties in florence. I thought I would write about one of them that I went to this weekend.

It was a white party, everyone had to dress in white it was beautiful. The location for the party was amazing. It was located at the canoe boathouse right under the ponte vecchio (old bridge of florence). It was incredible. Everything was white, the couches... tables. It was lit by candles all over the ground. There was a dance floor and then huge blankets with pillows all over. It was so nice. Lots of dancing and partying. They also had canoe rides that you could take up and down the arno. Then later in the night there was a jazz singer from chicago with an incredible voice that sang from a boat in the river. I bet everyone in the city was wondering what was going on! It was great. The best party I think I have ever been to. Anyways, I wanted to put a few pictures up from the party. The professional photos are not up yet, but here are some that a friend of mine took! Enjoy

7 days till USA !!!!

SIX MONTHS IS APPROACHING!!!!!!

Hey Ya'll

How has everyone been???? Well, It has almost been 6 months since I have lived over here in Italy. And everyday I get to do something new that makes me understand 100 % why I am here. The past month was a rush of things and then it all has calmed down now. So let me fill you in.

So after my parents came to visit me alot has happened. I have barely had a chance to sit down. Around the 6th of may I went to Milan for the first time with school. It was amazing, a really different city... not italian at all... but very much similar to ny... not not with all the skyscrapers. So we were there for 2 days. We had a lot of appts. with hotels like the savoy and jewelers like buccelati. It was really interesting. We saw the famous gothic style duomo... i love mine in florence much better! hahah Then we had a great dinner in a really funky/artsy part of town. It was great. Nice to finally see people in Italy who care about fashion and what to wear... etc. Its a very interesting place. So then the next day our teacher told us that she had a surprise for us. We had no clue what she was talking about! So we all walked to monte-napoleone- which is the main street where you can find gucci, prada, ferragammo etc. and we waited outside of a beautiful building. And as it turns out... we got to take a tour of GIANNI Versace's apartment. It is the place that he lived when he died. And we got to see how over the top his home was… just like his designs. Also they have not moved anything since his death. Which was kind of creepy. But Donatella and Allegra live there when they come to Milan now. It was interesting. So if you look at the photos you can see some pictures of versace and a house.. now you know who that is. Well all in all the trip to milan was great. We also got to see fornasetti.. a furniture company. Im sure you all would recognize the designs. They were incredible. Well, Since we were already in Milan Sara and I thought it would be great to take the train up to NICE or NIZZA as they say in Italian. So we got on the train on Wednesday afternoon and we stayed in Nice till Sunday. Sara has a friend she went to college with that lives there so we were lucky to be able to stay with them. They picked us up from the train station and we went to dinner. This was my first time to france so I wanted to try all the famous foods of france… excluding the froglegs and snails. HAHA. So the next day we got into the car and drove 3 hour to provance to a lake that was the bluest thing I have ever seen. We went to a small town close to the lake and walked through the little market..testing all of the sweets and olive pastes…etc. Then we made our way back to the lake and had an amazing picnic on the shore. Filled with meats, cheeses and of course baguettes and wine. After lunch Sara and I went on a paddle boat through the lake. I later found out that the lake was man made about 50 years ago. But that before there was an old town there that had been abandoned and they filled in the valley and made the lake. You can now go scuba diving and go through the town. Sounds so amazing.

Anyways, so we made our way back and hung out the rest of the day after our long journey. Then the next day we spent in Nice, walking around and enjoying all that nice had to offer. The following day we woke up and went to a huge lunch at her grandmothers house. It was hilarious filled with tons of french people that didn’t speak a word of english. I just sat and ate and ate and ate. They never stopped feeding me. Her grandmother was like 96 years old and she was drinking more than all of us. It was hilarious. That evening, we got in the car and made our way over to monte carlo in Monaco. The road took about an hour to get there and the second that we made our way into monaco you could tell the difference. It was so clean.. no trash, no stickers on the bus stops, advertisements, tons of police and cameras everywhere. It was kind of creepy, yet beautiful to see such a nice city. We finally made our way to a sushi restaurant and had an amazing dinner and then drinks on the terrace of the hotel. Monaco was incredible. The next day sara and I made our way back to florence.

The next couple of weeks or so were filled with parties and dinners. A lot of my friends were leaving for jobs, internships and to go back to their countries so we had to have a great few weeks before we said goodbye ☹

On may 29th we had a ceremony with school and ferruccio ferragamo gave us our diplomas. It was short but sweet. An interesting graduation to say the least.

Then 2 days later sara and I left for Paris for 3 days. We stayed with her friend Olivie in an amazing part of the city. I don’t know how we possibly fit into his apartment which was much smaller than my bedroom. But we made it work. The first night we got there we ate at a very french restaurant and walked around the area he lived. The next day, Sunday we got up and walked around. We saw notre dame, a small market for birds which was so cute (I found one that looked just like my bird), then we saw the river, and had lunch in the jewish ghetto. Such a cute area, then we got on the bikes that you can rent and we saw the opera house, lourve, place ven dome, lourve gardens, chams des lesay, arc di triumphe, effiel tower… I don’t know how we managed to do all of that in one day. But we did. It was amazing, yet tiring. The next day sara and I woke up early to go to the lourve. We spent about 3 hours there and we were rushing to see everything. It was one of the most amazing museums I have ever seen and I would love love love to go back. The mona lisa was great, but there was so much more to see. I couldn’t help but think about the da vinci code the whole time! Hahah. After the lourve we had lunch with one of sara’s friends and then we took a bike over to monte marte and the moulin rouge. Little did we know that the area was all up hill. So once we ditched the bikes we got stranded in the rain. But we walked through monte marte. It was one of the most interesting places I have ever seen. It really does still have the same feel as it is known for.. not comercialized at all.. The only thing I was un impressed with was the moulin rouge. It would def. be a waste of money. Anyways so the rest of the trip was great. We also got to see the luxemborg gardens as well.

Well, as if that wasn’t enough to keep me busy. The past month I had a bunch of friends come to visit. The week before I left for paris my friend matt from dallas came to stay. We had a blast, and I brought him as my date to a club party. It was a floral theme and we had a great time. Then after paris I was so excited because 2 of my friends from my program I studied in last time came to visit. Ashley my roomate from last time with monica and another girl liz who I went to greece with. It was great, nice to show them all the old places we used to go. We also went to dinner at monica’s and had a great time. Nothing like eating all the old foods! Right after they left another friend Michael who was one of my best friends in my last program in italy came to visit. I got to meet his girlfriend and see them for dinner a few times. Then a day after that! Hahahah I know I know. 2 girls that I was great friends with in high school came to visit! It was so good to see everyone! I always love to see familiar faces. Also in florence right now are a few girls from high school who are younger than be that are studying here. It makes me feel old! Hahah And lastly, the other day I was leaving my apartment and I ran into two of my teachers from high school and the principle. I felt really accomplished to tell them that I was living here and just completed my masters! It was great! Let see what else did I do. I went to filippo ricci’s 25 birthday party at a great restaurant in florence that is only made of 3 tables! Nice and cozy.

OH and Daniele and I went on a little tuscan adventures. We drove 3 hours to a small city in tuscany to stay in a bed and breakfast. It was a great road trip. It was close to grossetto on the sea. We had so much fun, Going to dinners and big lunches and just enjoying italy! It was a nice vacation!

WOW I DIDN’T REALIZE HOW MUCH I HAD TO SAY!

A week ago or so, we had the privilage of seeing one of the most famous happenings in florence. Historic football. It was crazy. One of our friends lives above santa croce piazza and she invited us all over to watch the game. It was great, they set up a huge dirt field with bleachers and then we got to watch the 4 teams battle it out.. I mean really fight to make goals and become the winner for the year. I was for the blue team because I live in santa croce. It was great, they had everyone dressed up as knights and medieval figures. This is something they have played since like the 1500s and they brought it back about 40 years ago. It was really neat to see.

Over the past week or so I have done a lot of things as well.. Last week my friend alberto graduated from college. He is the other guy that is coming with me to the us. I will fill you in on that in a minute. So we went to his graduation and had a big lunch after. The last week was florence fashion week or pitti, so I went to lots of parties for that. There was a billabong party up at forte belvedere (a huge fort across the arno) it was beautiful. Then I was invited to classic italia, a party at the palazzo pitti. Then last Friday the ricci’s invited me to a dinner called the ricci trophy. And they had 25 historic cars and they judged them on many different categories. We had a nice candlelight dinner in the middle of the boboli gardens! It was amazing.

Then the really exciting part. Monday morning I woke up and I got to go to Milan with Daniele for fashion week. We arrived on Monday night and had dinner with karen katz’s son ( the ceo of neimans). Before though we were walking by armani cafĂ© and we saw adrien brody! It was so cool! Then we had drinks and went to sleep early because we had to be up for a big day on Tuesday. So that morning we woke up and went to meet all the buyers and ceo of neimans at the westin and they gave us our tickets to the shows. They even let us ride in the car with them! It was amazing. First we went to Marni, then john varvatos. We met him! So cool. Then we took the car in a mad rush to dsquared. That was the coolest show by far. More my type.. rap music, fun and energetic. Then we went to Fendi, etro, dolce and gabana and armani. At armani, I got to see someone I have always wanted to see… ANNA WINTOUR! She was exactly how I thought she would be.. her little bob with her glasses. She never moved a muscle! It was so amazing. We also go to see mr armani himself. But I had already seen him before, so that was not so impressive! Hahahah Anyways it was amazing, and so tiring. All that dani and I could say was that was so fun, but tiring but how do these people really work at these things. They were so hot, and crowded, but we were so happy to get to see it all! It was incredible!!!!!!!

I got back to florence last night and then we celebrated the patron saint of florence, saint john. It was his holiday yesterday! They had fireworks above piazza michelangelo! It was great, it really feels like summer here. Its so hot, we have the most famous gelato place down the street. We are going to the pool, riding bikes. I really love it!!!!!!!! Its nice to live in a city for the summer. It really is a change from dallas. I know dallas is a city but its really different than here hahah!

So back to the trip! On july 27 I will be coming back to the us for vacation. I cannot wait. Daniele, alberto and I are going to be in ny for 5 days, then boston to see haley! And then miami for a few days. We are really excited. It is also there 1st time to the us so I am so happy I get to show them around. Let me know if you will be in any of those places. It is so funny, because so many of our friends will be in the states the same time as us… its like all of florence is coming here! Then after for 2 weeks I will be in dallas. And then the week after haley is coming to italy to stay with me!

SO THERE HAS BEEN TONS GOING ON, but right now I am just relaxing and enjoying my time here in italy.

Love to hear from you all, sorry I gave u a novel to read! Hahaha

MAY MAY MAY

WOW, I really cannot believe that I have gotten so bad about this blog. I have had numerous complaints and I am terribly sorry. Italy has become my life and it doesn’t really seem like I am just living over in Italy for a few months. I guess that is a good thing!!! It is exactly what I wanted and I am happier than I have ever been!!! This is going to be a long update, but here it goes.

Well, I realized that I never really spoke about my everyday life, the people I meet, the streets I walk, the life I lead! Well, as you all are aware, I moved here on the first of january. I moved into a darling little apartment at the actual center of florence, I mean center! I loved this apartment, but after a few months it became too small and I had a great offer. One of the girls in my class from france… told me that her roomate was moving out and that she needed to find a replacement. I told her, ya I will come by and look at it. When I finally made it over there, I knew that this was the actual house I was supposed to be at! It is in an amazing neighborhood just minutes from my first apartment and it was spacious and beautiful. I had to take it! Plus it was like 400 euros less and 400 square feet bigger! What a deal. Anyways, so I moved in on the 15th of April and I have had such a great time with my roomate, SARA! Hahah We have the same name. Its pretty funny, but we have developed nicknames, thanks to my friend Daniele. I go by Sarina and she is Sareta. It’s the only way! Hahah. So she is from perpinon (sp) in the south of france like 1 hour away from barcelona. She studied in Montreal for the past 4 years and she is in the same program as me. She is 24 and she speaks really good english, I have to be careful, because she is starting to talk like me (very proper english….im sure ! hahah). We have a rule in our house that after 3 times of saying what what what…when we cant understand eachother. After 3 times we give up! It cant be that important! Hahah So about the apartment. It is located in a really old building (hahah whats not) and we are on the 1st floor. When you walk in the door there is a long hallway, where her bedroom is the first room and mine the second. Let me just explain the size difference! My old apartment fit into my bedroom now. I have a great shabby chic, yet italian style bedroom with a great big window that overlooks a church across the street. On nice days I can open up the windows and let the florence air come in. But along with that comes mosquitos!!!! Oh man I thought I got away from those in texas! Then we have a huge kitchen with a pantry and small breakfast table. Then in the living room we have one room that has a dining room as well. Beautiful big couches. Then we also have a nice bathroom and laundry room. Its amazing. The floor is also tile, which can be cold at times, but it gives it the italian feel that we love. It’s a great house for people to come over. A week doesn’t go by where we don’t have a big italian dinner (thanks to daniele) or a nice party… or even 5 of our friends all croweded around my computer to watch the latest south park episode! Haha. Its amazing, exactly the kind of house that I love and have always wanted. It could use a few decorations, but well see when that happens!

I will post some photos of my apartment and my life in florence, where I walk, my school etc. I will add them soon, I promise promise promise.

Well, so as for my life in florence. Week to week it changes, but as I said above we always have dinners at my house as well as a big dinner at francescos (franci). He lives up in the hills over looking florence and I always go up there to have a 5 hour dinner! It is always the best food and full of great company (never less than 10 people). Well on Mondays we all meet (me and a few of my italian boys… niccolo, dani) all meet at a bar that we love Colle Bereto, we have a drink and all meet before we go to the disco club YAB (you are beautiful) yes cheezy, but it is italy! We all meet there and have our designated table for hip hop night. It is pretty hilarious to teach these italians to dance to rap and hip hop! Actually they asked me to give them lessons while we are in the club…like some new dance moves! Then after a few weeks of these moves, they realized that I was teaching them to dance like a girl…. So that has since ceased hhahahahha. Tuesdays, we sometimes go out to francescos club. It is called BE BOP, it has been there since the 60s. its great, its like a hole in the ground but it is a live music bar. On Tuesday nights we listen to a great cover band (THE BEATLES). Its so much fun to see people dress up like the beatles and people dance like they are in the 60s and 70s. it really is a great atmosphere. Wednesday we take it easy hahha, then Thursday it starts up all over again and we normally go out to a club called full up. This also procedes into the weekend. Its great because everywhere we go we see our friends and we can have such a great time all together. With a handful of clubs, we see eachother there or walking in the main piazza having a drink. Its such a great feeling!

So as for my friends. Sara, pehr and pep have continued to be my little family. They are amazing. I love them all so much and Im going to miss them when they go back home! But daniele, he is 24, italian, works at sergio rossi, he has become my best friend here. We have so much fun together. He is the true italian, but better! He really enjoys cooking and wants to open up his own restaurant one day. He is an amazing chef! He is also the kickboxing champion of tuscany! Hahah, I call him the one man band. He does everything. He is great. We have so much fun together, last week we went out to the countryside for lunch and then I got him to watch rush hour 3. It was so funny, Anyways, you will see him in a lot of my photos. He is the tall guy with curly brown hair. Francesco is also one of my good friends. He is the on that has his own winery. That’s who I went to vinitaly with. Dani as well. There is niccolo and filippo as well. Tons of great people. Most are guys, italian girls are not that friendly and actually don’t seem to be too keen on american girls, well foreign girls in general. But I have met a few and those few are great!

The past month a lot has happened. I believe that the last time I wrote I was just leaving for vinitaly… about a month ago. Vinitaly was great, it was in verona (I didn’t get to see the city though) But the fair was so interesting. I worked at the stand. And whenever people came up we gave them a tester and talked to them about the wines. The name is BARONCELLI. It is sold only to the us in nice restaurants, but mostly on the east coast. Its great. Anyways so we went to nice dinners and hung out at the fair all day. It was about a 3 hour drive there. It was fun to go on my first italian road trip, especially with my 2 great friends. It was so nice. Then we came back and I was in florence for a few weeks. We just had school and I switched over my apartment ( a pain in the butt). We went on a few school visits, but nothing to out of the ordinary ( FOR ITALYhahah). Lots of enjoying life and the new apartment. We through a housewarming party for me at my new apartment and we had a ton of mexican food. I made fajitas! It was so much fun. Then on April 25 my parents came. It was so much fun. It was such a different experience to have them come and visit me when I was living on my own. They came to florence and we went to lots of nice dinners and walked around for a few days. I surprised them with a fiat 500 tour of florence, which was the highlight of their trip ( I think!) It was so much fun 4 of us drove around in 2 cars. We took them to the outskirts of florence and they got to see the tuscan countryside. And for my dad, the car nut, it was great! No masarati, but its something fun and new to do! It was great. Then on Monday we went to rome. We did lots of sightseeing (my 2nd or 3rd time) but when does that stuff ever get old. Vatican tour, roman forum, rome at twilight! It was great. I actually met a guy on one of my tours that went to KU! It was the first experience that I have had outside ku around the world where I can bond with a fellow jayhawk! It was great. He was actually good friends with my ex boyfriend’s(mike) brother! Crazy.

We went from there to naples, to the island of capri and then to the penninusla of sorrento. This part of the trip was nice and relaxing. Eating great dinners and laying by the pool and beach. It was a great place to start my summer tan!!!!

It was a great trip over all! Check out the photos.

Well, anyways, so..its the middle of may and I only have 2 weeks of school left.!!! I DO NOT BELIEVE IT. I have a little graduation ceremony and then I begin my 4 month summer project. Its like 2 hours a week and I am working for riva yachts. Lots of fun research., I don’t know that much about how its going to work. I will let u know!!!!

Well I miss u all so much, and I hope that some of you come and visit me. Keep in touch

Love sarah

CIAO CIAO CIAO

Hey Everyone, once again, sorry its been so long since my last post. I cannot believe its almost been 1 month. where does the time go. Anyways, so as of yesterday I have been in Florence 3 months, it seems like forever. I love it! Well a lot has happened the past month. We had many trips with school like wine tastings, yacht factories, clothing factories... and many more. They are all so interesting. I really learn so much and I am so thankful that I get to learn these things 1st hand. On March 20 I went to Vienna, Austria with a friend from school. Her family lives there and we went to stay with them for 6 days. It was amazing, cold, but amazing. They took me all over the city... basically the culinary tour of Vienna. We tried the famous chocolate sacher torte, scnizel, drinks and food and more food! It was great to have a first hand look at the city and all the palaces!!! check out the photos for more! We went to the oldest zoo in the world, the summer palace of the hapsburgs, the main city center, stephenplatz church, and of course H and M! haha, its a must... Oh and i made her take me to starbucks like 5 times, as well as subway to have a sandwich! haha, classic american, i know! but its amazing the things that you miss!

Anways,I came straight home from vienna and left the next day for the north of italy, we went with school to the riva (yachts) shipyard. it was in sarnico, the southern most city on one of the main lakes next to lake como. it was beautiful, then the next day we went to la spezia which is a city close to the sea. it was so hot! Im so glad that summer is coming!!!!!! we had another tour of the yacht factory, but this time it was for the largest boats, 115 feet! huge! it was so cool to see how they build them.

so after that we finished around 1 and my 3 friends and I went to cinque terra' its on the sea, I went there 2 years ago. It was beautiful.

my friend, pehr from sweden, pep from spain and my new roomate sara from france! we all spent the weekend hiking, eating good food and swimming in the ocean! yeah! im so happy to be here this summer. check out the photos!

anyways, i am off to verona now to spend 2 days with some of my italian friends at the biggest wine fair in the world! i cannot wait! tell you how it goes.

LA DOLCE VITA- Its better than I ever dreamed of

Well, Once again I am so sorry that I have been so terrible about keeping up with my blog. But here it goes... the past month.

I cannot believe that it is already March. I do not know where the time has gone. All I know is that I have not wasted a minute of my time!

well.... So, First things first, School is good. It has finally become something of a routine. But then there are random times where things are changed or we go on field trips. I have mastered the art of being laid back! Things are never what they seem and are never going to be how you originally planned. But i think that it is a great lesson to learn.

So, lets see. recently I have been going to dinner parties a few nights a week. Some of my friends through some friends... ahaha have me over for dinners a lot. They are really nice guys. It is so funny to have guys cook the food while the girls sit and wait! I love it. HAHA. Maybe american guys could start learning how to cook as well. :) Its always really nice. I really love eating dinner here, because it is such an event. We always start with wine (really good wine, bc my friend owns his own vineyard), then cheese and meats, pasta, salad, desert, coffee, lemoncello, everything. And we start at 8 and finish after 12. its always so nice though!

Anyways within the past 2 weeks I have had 2 great events happen. Actually I think they might be the two best events that I have ever experienced in my life... haha I know its easy to say that a lot about things right after they happened. but i really think that these are pretty high up on the list

Well, 2 weekends ago, I went to a party hosted by some of my friends. It was called the bathrobe party! It was so much fun. My friends francesco, daniele and i drove out to this villa in chianti. called villa casagrande. It was beautiful. About 30 minutes away from florence. There was a huge villa and i had a room there (my 4 friends came and met me there later that night), i went to my room got changed. it was so strange to change out of my clothes and put on a bikini and a bathrobe. But as all of you know I love to swim so anything that has to do with water, i love it. So there were about 150 people at the party and all night long you danced in your bathrobe, went in a sauna, turkish bath, jacuzzi. There were people giving massages and there was food and drinks! Then at 12:30 everyone jumped into the pool! It was unbelievable! Then the next day after we all woke up about 50 of us had a big lunch together at the villa and then we changed back into our suits and went to the spa all day! it was amazing. Its so great hanging out with italians because they always want to have a good time and they never want it to end! I'm telling you...never. Even after the long weekend together my friends wanted to go back and make a big dinner at his house that night! haha they are really crazy!

So then , this weekend... which was one of the best of my life! On Saturday morning I woke up and met 3 of my girlfriends and we went with francesco to his friend francesco's horses (i know they all have the same names) Francesco number 2 ahha plays polo here in florence. He has 6 polo horses and he invited us to come and ride. It was so much fun! We got all dressed up like we knew what we were doing! And We got on the horses and we were running all around the hypodrome (never heard this word until now ahha) it was so great. francesco invited us to come out there as much as we want. its really close to school! I was having so much fun. I have never gotten to go fast on a horse before! especially not one that spoke italian! ahhah it was so much fun. took lots of photos, i will put them on ofoto right after this!!!

Well anyways, that would have been enough but ... then we all got into the cars and went to francescos villa in chianti. It was amazing. It was about a 45 minute drive from florence. He lives in a town that consisted of 7 houses. I even met this 82 year old lady that was walking the streets. We started talking and she told me that she was married in the church in 1947 and lived there her whole life!

Anyways so we arrived about 6 and we just walked around the house… well I mean castle. The church was attached to his house, it was built in 1018ad. Then the next part of the house was from the 12th century and the last part from the 14th century! There were 10 bedrooms but probably 40 rooms in total. It was incredible there were small rooms with random things in them. But the whole place was decorated perfectly. With portraits of random people all throughout! I cannot even express to you how amazing it was. We sat down and had a butler that brought us tea! Heaven. Haha We all just hung out and talked by the fire and then went to his sauna! It was so nice. Then at about 10 we ate dinner. He made barbeque and risotto! Yummy. ( I really and truly wish I could express this all in words, but I cant. It was just that amazing) After dinner we all just talked, francesco taught me how to play batgammon. Then we went to bed around 2. The next day we woke up and looked outside, it was one of the most beautiful days yet!!!! We all got dressed had some tea and crackers and then began to explore! Francesco has an old vintage car from the 40s that I am going to make him take me for a ride in when it gets warmer! I couldn’t believe it! I felt like I was in a movie! So anyways, we all walked around went for a hike, then we layed around by the pool (well what will be the pool in the summer. He is also building a huge pool at the top of the hill. And he invited us for a huge summer party! Cant wait. I have no words to explain this weekend. Just check out the photos !!! Oh and francesco has the cutest dog ever, next to chloe, a little jack russel terrier, appropriately named JACK! He and I have become great friends. He never leaves my side. Francesco cant believe how he is so attached to me! I love it. I am going to be taking care of him some days when francesco is busy! I love it! He was like a free dog walker! Perfect.

Anyways, so now I am back getting back into school again for the week. But who knows what next weekend will entail! We might go to monte carlo!!! But on the 20th I am going to vienna and I cannot wait.

Well that’s all that’s new over here. I have to start planning somethings to do! Its getting nice and warm!

Well, I would love to hear from some of you, I would also love to have some visitors!!!

Love u all

FEBRUARY IN FLORENCE

WOW…. 1 month! I cannot believe that I have been here in Florence for 1 month now. I apologize for taking so long to post what I have been up to! I have been meaning to sit down and take some time for emails and photos and blogging, but it takes so much time.

Anyways, I miss everyone so much. I am having the time of my life, but there are things that I miss. (like all of you!).

So.. down to business!

School: School is going great. I am enjoying it more and more every single day. Classes are long, 3 hours straight, but we always have 1 if not 2 coffee breaks. I am drinking so much coffee!!! I started drinking caffe latte (which has like a shot of coffee and then the rest is warm milk… it fills me up and tastes amazing!) Anyways, here are some of the classes I am taking and some of the things I have been doing. On Mondays I go to a class called luxury management- we learn lots of things… all sectors of luxury and we have a lot of speakers and go on lots of field trips. Last week we had RIVA yachts come and speak to us. It was so interesting. They were talking about how they are changing the way they sell yachts in the us and that they need people to work in MIAMI!. I walked up to the vp during the break (coffee of course) and I spoke to him about job opportunities. I sent him my resume today! Yeah! So… well see what happens. How great… selling yachts in miami! Amazing! Anyways, I am so glad that I am going to this school because then I can explore other sides of luxury..not just fashion. I think that yachts would be a really great thing to get into. Anyways, then I also have a class called luxury shoes. It is so cool, last week we learned how shoes are made! From start to finish! And how they choose trends for accessories over 1 year in advance! Then on Tuesday’s I have my earliest class… 8:30 which is luxury management again. Then in the afternoon I have luxury merchandising. This week we went to the ferragamo museum. It is amazing. We saw the actual shoes that marilyn monroe and audrey hepburn wore. Ferragamo was an absolute genius. Most of the shoes in the exhibit now are from the 30’s, 40, 50’s and they look like they were made this year! Its incredible.

Then on Wednesday’s I have a class called knitwear. This week we went to a knitwear sample factory and learned all about how knitwear is made. The different gauges of knitwear and how the machines work. It was so interesting. And last week we went to pitti filati- like a fair for fabrics. I started talking to this guy, who own a company that just sold feathers. It was incredible! I asked him how messy his shop was! It was so funny… he said feathers everywhere! Basically they sell feathers to all designers to put on every bag, dress… etc. Most of the feathers in fashion come from him! It was so weird, but cool to see all the different sides of how a garment is made. Then on Thursday’s I have 2 classes- international marketing and then marketing. They are similar, but one teaches me more about how companies work and one is more speaking about marketing overall. One of my teachers- who we all cannot understand for the life of us---- was the assistant to prada when they became big in the early 90’s. haha, and he walks around with a cane and smacks it on the screen to point at things. Its so funny!!!! Lastly, on Fridays I have one class called intercultural communications. It is so interesting. We learn how to communicate with different cultures and how to be open to learning new things about different cultures. I love it! And its so cool because we are all from different places so its really neat to see everyones side of things.

Anyways, so future trips- I am going to milan for a luxury shoe trade show and to naples to go to the kiton and isaia factories- really high end mens suit factories. I am really excited.

Anyways, enough about school. Lets see. OH! I am going to VIENNA for 6 days at easter time. I am really excited. It will be a lot of fun. I am going with my friend kirstin who is from there, so it will be nice to go with someone who knows the city!

I have been working at a bar 1 or 2 nights a week. I started as a waitress… then moved to a bartender and now I also cook food! Haha. Last week, when I showed up to work for the superbowl (which started at 1230 at night and went till 4—terrible) I had to make 8 pizzas, risotto, crostinis, lasagne and eggplant parmasan. Omg! Hahah I was like what have I gotten myself into. So funny!!!!

Anyways, life in florence is amazing. I have made so many friends. It is so nice that we can all hang out together and get along so great. There are about 12 or so of us that hang out on a regular basis. Its so amazing. And we all live so close to eachother so we can get together all the time! I don’t go 1 hour with out seeing one of them! Hahah. This week was a crazy week. There was carnivale on Tuesday! My friends and I dressed up and went to a huge rio de janero party! I dressed up like a pirate with my friend pep! It was so much fun. Then last night I had a party that the riccis invited me to. They have their own club in florence made of 80 members from around the world and they have parties every month. It was a doctors and nurse party! It was so much fun. I got to bring 7 of my friends and we had an absolute blast. I think the best party was trying to find an outfit! They don’t have any party cities here! Haha. Anyways, I am just loading up some photos to ofoto of random times In florence! I hope you enjoy them

Well, I miss you all, and email me if you can, I would love to hear what everyone is up to,

Love
Sarah
Ps. Went to mexican food last night! AMAZING, I put like 20 jalapenos on my fajita! Hahaha I miss spicy food so much!

CIAO!

Hi everyone,

So sorry that I haven't posted until now! I hope everyone is doing well. Things are great here. I have a little sore throat...but I'm fine. I actually went into the pharmacy and said to them... my throat hurts and then they just gave me antibiotics! I love it. And they were like 5 euros! haha.

Well, I am getting settled in. I just finished my 2nd week of school. It is great. First off, all the people are amazing. I am in class with 24 people from: america, spain, france, sweden, norway, bulgaria, italy, austria, china, taiwan, thailand, holland, mexico, india, dubai, lebanon and the list goes on. It is so great to learn from them! I think I am actually learning more from them than I am in school. Haha!!! They are all so amazing and we have so much fun together.

As for school, we have already done 2 trips! We went last week to Pitti Uomo (which is the men's fashion fair for fall trends). It was amazing... quite a mess, but amazing. People running around. But it was great to see all the fashions and the cute italian men! Haha. All the girls were saying how we could write a better paper on the pitti people then the pitti fashion! Oh man! Then this past Thursday we went to Vicenza- a small town close to venice. It is where one of the biggest jewelry exhibits is held. There were over 1600 exhibitors and there was over 1 billion dollars in jewels there! It was crazy. We saw some of the most beautiful things. I happened to stumble upon a beautiful yellow diamond.. and decided i had to have it. I think I went back to look at it like 10 times! HA. The only bummer about the trip was that we had to take a bus 4 hours there at 6 am and then 4 hours home!

All in all, school is great, very laid back, but I think its just italian! Anyways, enough about school.

Lets talk about the fun stuff. I have made such good friends here in florence. I have been hanging out with some guys that I met through Neiman’s. They are Stefano Ricci’s (the menswear designer) sons. They are so so great. They really have made me feel welcome. They take me to dinner and we go out dancing. I am really thankful to have met them. It has been beyond fun!

I have so much to say….! Yesterday, I took my first trip. I went to Pisa to see the leaning tower with my friend Kirstin. It was so much fun. We took the train there in the morning and then we ate lunch and climbed the tower! It was so crazy. It was like a fun house. The stairs were all warped and at times your holding onto the wall because your being tilted (obviously). It was so much fun. Kind of high! But a blast. Check out my picture.!!! It was really tiring holding it up, but someone had to do it! Hahah

Well, Lastly, I wanted to tell everyone that I have a job! I started last night. I am only working one day a week, maybe 2. But its great. It is at a small resturant/bar called Naima. It is really laid back and we serve breakfast, lunch and apperitivo (you buy a drink and you can eat from a small buffet). It was so much fun. All of my friends came and hung out! It was very challenging though. I mean, I have never done anything like this in my life. And to learn it with all italian machines and ways of doing things! I was so confused. Haha! But my boss said I did great! And I even made some tips! Yeah!

Anyways, Im starting to get settled in here. Its been like a big vacation for the past week. Going out till 4.5… even 6 am! Haha, But Im starting to get settled in and I am absolutly loving every minute here!

I hope some of you come and visit me! I would love to have some visitors!

Love you all
Sarah

I am putting my photos up on ofoto! I don't know why its not working! I will attach the link in the next post.

Monday Jan.7

Ciao,

How is everyone! I got internet, yeah! So I spoke with a few of you over skype tonight and it was so great to hear your voices! Its now 11:00 at night, and today was my first day at school. It was great. This morning at 8:45 I met up with Kirstin (from austria) and Pep (from Barcelona) and we went to school together. We figured that if we were going to get lost, we might as well get lost together. Anyways, we went to school and we had orientation this morning. After that Pep and I came into the city to have lunch and a coffee of course! Then we had our first class, luxury merchandising at 3. It was great. Our teacher was so great. She used to be the vp for federated international stores for almost 40 years. We are going to get to go on so many great field trips. I already know what most will be, but I will wait to tell you them until I go on them! surprise surprise! haha! Anyways, so all in all it was a great first day. My schedule is great. I go to school at 3pm on mondays for only 3 hours and then, tuesdays at 8:30-11:30... so most days I only have school for 3 hours or so. Its awesome. But this week our schedule is a little different because the fashion shows are in FLORENCE!!! Yeah. On wednesday, we have our first assignment... go to PITTI UOMO (the name of the mens shows) and then take notes and pictures of all the trends. Then we have to present them to the class on tuesday. I am so excited.

This week will also be exciting because the men's buyers from Neiman's are coming... so I am going out to dinner with them on thursday and then back to the shows this weekend! I cannot wait.

This is truly a dream come true. Well, here is one of the pictures!
Love to all!

CIAO CIAO, FINALLY THE WEEKEND!

Well, I am sorry that I didn’t get time until now to put the photos up. I still do not have internet in my apartment, but I loaded them on my usb and have brought them to the internet train (shop) close to my apartment. I realized that in my last post I did not say anything about my apartment. I absolutely love it. It is in a great location close to the center of town and I think in the same building where I live there are maybe 30 other shops. I have my own pizza shop, gelato shop, resturants, pubs, clothing stores, doctors office and gucci! and many more! Its amazing that this building has so many things in it besides apartments. Anyways, so my apartment is on the 2nd floor here, which is the 3rd floor in America. I have a small elevator that is probably 50 years old. But at least I have one. Or I can use the stairs. Oh and there is also a hotel the floor above me. So if a lot of people come and stay you can stay in the same building! Haha. So once I get to my floor there is a big wooden door that I have to open with a different key, then I go inside a small foyer and there is another set of doors, but I use a code on this one. Then once inside, I walk down a long hall to the end where my apartment is and I have 2 small wooden doors that I use another key to open! So many keys. But at least I know that I am safe. I absolutely love my apartment. It has 1 room with the couch/bed, and there is a closet which fits all my clothes… a miracle… and then there is a cabinet for all of my things. There is also a table that can be made into a desk or a big table for eating… you kno all those lavish dinner parties I will be throwing! (with the water that doesn’t boil! Haha). Ok, so then there are 2 separate rooms. The bathroom is so nice, it is all tile and the shower is so clean and warm! You may be thinking… why wouldn’t it be warm… it’s a shower with hot water! Well, in Italy, they tend to not like to put doors on showers or curtains. Last time my shower had only half a door! So I am very very thankful that this shower can keep me warm while I am standing under trickling water! Haha. And the bathroom is twice the size of my bathroom in dallas. Also, it is twice the size of my kitchen… talk about a mix up! That brings me to my kitchen. It is nice, I have all the kitchen supplies I need as well as a microwave and refrigerator. Its great. So I am posting a few pictures that I took of my apartment… with all of my things in it!

So Friday after I posted on my blog, I met up with michela again so she could take me to the grocery store or coop. She walked through all of it with me and explained some things to me. Like all about the different brands and different types of cheeses there are. Man there are so many! Then after I met up with her for a dinner party. We went by scooter again, and we met up with some of her friends (10 girls). It was so much fun. I was definetly the quietest person in the room. But is was fun and great to finally have something to eat for dinner! Haha. They were all so nice. Two of the girls had just come back from NYC. And I got to see all of their pictures. It was so funny, seeing and hearing them talk about things in america… like I speak about things in italy. For instance, they all saw a picture of times square. And they were like ahhhh che bella, how beautiful, many lights! Haha, I tried not to laugh. They also took pictures of very odd things. There were pictures of random signs that didn’t mean anything or like a police car… hahah! But god knows that americans do the same thing when they go to other countries! Haha.

So then we went out to a disco, where one of the girls works. We didn’t even eat dinner that night till 10:30 and we went out at 1:30. The bar doesn’t even get full till 2:30ish and it closes at 5. Haha. All I know is that it was a very italian club, because I smelt like I had been sitting in a box full of cigarette smoke for 10 years and I felt like I had eaten more smoke than food since I have been in italy!

That is definetly one thing that you have to get used to!

Anyways, right now I have so much to say and so much time. But starting next week, I know school will keep me busy.

Oh and today I met a girl that is in school with me. She is from Austria! And she is so so nice. We sat and ate lunch for like 2 hours today and talked. She lives really close to me and I think that we will be great friends. Her mom works for the UN in austria, but she is british. Kirstin speaks really good english so that is nice for me! We are meeting on Monday to go to school together.

Ok… arrividerci!

Ciao sarah
( ok so now that i am here putting the post up... i cannot put photos! sorry! they will have to wait until i get to school!) sorry

A WILD RIDE!!!

Hey everyone,

So, I wrote the last post on Tuesday night when I arrived. And now it is friday and I have done a ton this week.

On Tuesday Night after I arrived, I met up with Monica, Michela and her husband. It was so great to see them all! It was just like I had never left. It was so great. They made me dinner and we sat around and talked about everything that has happened over the past year and a half. Niente--- they said... nothing, which I find hard to believe! But Monica told me that she is getting too more girls on the 17th. So I will get to meet them and I'm sure I will go and eat dinner with them. YUMMY YUMMY food! Anyways, so that night at Michela's they had a bottle of sparkling wine and we drank some to toast the new year. They were very confused when I said its called a toast... they were like... toast that you eat? They were so confused. There are a few things that monica gets confused about. It is so funny. She told me that many times she rearranges her chicken... but she means kitchen. HA! But she also says "are you (H)Angry when she means to say HUNGRY! and vis-versa! Man have I missed the Italians!

Anyways so then on Thursday, I met up with Michela at 12:45 and we went to the bank, the post office, the police station... I had many things to do once I arrived. But we didn't walk to all of these things! WE RODE ON HER VESPA! It was so much fun... and so scary! She was laughing at me because I was holding onto her so tight... I told her she was my boyfriend for the day! HAHA! We rode all over the city.. and did I mention.. that it was in the pouring rain, it was quite interesting. I think a few times my leg brushed up against a car... and pretty close to a bus! It was so fun...haha. She also took me to my school and I got to see how to get there. It is so beautiful. It is up on a mountain. It is very beautiful!

OK, well I got my Italian cell phone. I will email it out rather than putting it on the blog. I cannot wait to talk to all of you. I hope everyone is doing well!!! Miss everyone.

I am on my way to eat lunch, Im starving.... last night it took 2 hours to boil some water for pasta... which never happened! so no dinner for me! hahah

I will figure it out sooner or later.

CIAO!

PS... I got woken up this morning by the sound of huge churchbells.. that sounded as if they were in my apartment! HA, I will really need to get used to this... or get some earplugs !

I am in FLORENCE!

Ciao,

I have arrived safely in Firenze. I hope everyone had a great New Year’s eve. Mine was an interesting one. On Friday, I flew to Miami from Dallas with all of my suitcases! Check out the picture…. I cannot believe I made it here with all of those bags (they were each 70 pounds!, it was a sight to see). I went to stay with my cousin, his wife and their cute baby!!! It was so much fun.. very relaxing and the weather was incredible. Thank you Mike and Stephanie for having me.

So then I left for Italy. I woke up on Monday morning and went to the airport (4 hours early…lots of fun!), haha, no actually it was great because I got to talk to most of you on the phone. It was so great to be able to say goodbye to everyone individually. So then I boarded my plane and was surrounded by really tan italians that had just vacationed in miami! HAHA, I thought that I was tan… then I saw them! The flight was easy, only about 8 hours. And each seat had their own tv so I got to choose out of 10 different movies and then I also could play video games. I think I played who wants to be a milliionare 1,000 times! And never made it out of the hot seat with more than 1,000 dollars! It was pathetic! Oh, so my new year’s… We had just gotten on the plane and after like 30 minutes it was new years in Italy. So the captian announced “due Minuti, un minuto, trenta secondi, then once he got to 10, 9, 8…. He only counted the even ones! He was like “dieci, otto, sei, quattro, due, HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!” It was so funny. They didn’t have time to give us all drinks, so we all had random drinks. I had a bottle of water and the couple next to me, who didn’t speak any english… tapped me on the shoulder and they were like “ ching ching”. It was interesting! Then a bunch of families pulled out the traditional christmas cake and they were passing it around clapping and screaming!!! Even the captians came and wished everyone happy new year…. But all I was thinking was who is flying the plane! Haha.

Anyways, so I arrived in Milan an 8 am and changed planes to go to florence… I didn’t sleep at all, so im sure I looked just lovely! I then got on my plane and finally made it to florence. I then went straight to my hotel, took a shower and then went to sleep! I didn’t even get a chance to realize that I was in Florence. But, now as im sitting here in my hotel on the first night, I cannot believe that I am here!!!! I went and walked around the city for an hour or so. Everything is just how I remembered it. I guess that’s what things are like here. They havent changed in centuries, so I guess they wouldn’t change in a year and a half.

Well, tonight I have dinner with Monica and Michela (my host mom from last time and her best friend). I am so excited. I get to see them and have a home cooked italian meal on my first night here! I am so thankful that she is here.

Then, tomorrow I am going to meet my landlord LORENZO, and move into my apartment. I know its going to be small, but I think it will be great. The only thing I am worried about is… Im not sure if there is a closet! Haha. I guess we’ll see!

Anyways, hope everyone is well. Email me and keep in touch. I am pretty much hanging out in florence this week, just getting everything organized. But I start school on Monday! I cannot wait. Miss everyone

Baci!
